«Hot Friday» exclusively at bike specialist Schnyder corse in Schänis: the first thoroughbred replica of the race-winning Ducati-MotoGP works machine Desmosedici takes to the Swiss roads with «PANOLIN» logo – about the same time as multitalented Hollywood star Tom Cruise takes over this technical wonderwork.
On Friday February 8, 2008 Schnyder corse caused a sensation in Schänis by taking Switzerland’s first MotoGP street bike, Desmosedici RR, out of his elegant showroom straight on to the road or racetrack. At about the same time as Hollywood-Star Tom Cruise, an incognito Ducati-Fan took over the hot red Ducati with PANOLIN logo in traditional Swiss colours. And as if that were not enough, the «Bella from Borgo Panigale» was made racetrack-ready – with over 200 HP – for the Schnyder corse Team. «We are delighted to have our emblem on this beautiful machine», said Carlos Travé, bike specialist at PANOLIN AG in Madetswil, «because it demonstrates our bike lubricants supremacy as well». This first replica of the Desmosedici MotoGP works racing bike is limited to only 1500 machines. The Desmosedici RR’s impressive performance and technology derive directly from the innovative bike that brought Casey Stoner his world championship win at the MotoGP with the reincarnated Desmosedici in 2007.
The beating heart of this handcrafted racing bike, reaching over 300 km/h, is a 989 ccm 4-cylinder engine packing more than 200 HP, with sand-cast casing, magnesium components and Ducati’s traditional Desmodromic valve gear. Power transmission to the rear wheel is via an anti-hopping dry clutch and six-speed cassette-type gearbox. This PANOLIN-sponsored Desmosedici RR will debut at the end of March on Barcelona’s legendary Circuit de Catalugna in the «Racing for Fun» category with the Schnyder corse team.
The chassis deriving from the original MotoGP bike comprises a tubular steel trellis hybrid frame, Ohlins FG353PFF forks with 43 mm TiN coated sliders, and Ohlins rear shock with massive dual swingarms. The forks and rear shock are fully adjustable and even have separate high and low speed compression adjustment. The forged and machined magnesium alloy wheels are made by the renowned Italian manufacturer Marchesini (Brembo Group). The Bridgestone Battlax BT-01 tyres were specially developed for the Desmosedici RR. As standard practice with standard racing bikes, this machine has no separate rear frame, but a self-supporting monocoque of carbon fiber composite.
«Both for the Ducati RR in classical styling with red Rosso GP paintwork and white start-number field, and for the RR in race version with red TEAM paintwork and white side stripes, only the very best lubricants are good enough», confirms Carlos Travé. For this red-hot machine he recommends PANOLIN STREET 4T RACE or the new environment-considerate PANOLIN STREET 4T BIO RACE. «Apart from 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine oils for street and offroad machines, scooters and quads, our comprehensive range of bike lubricants also includes gear oils, shock-absorber and air filter oils as well as an extensive collection of bike care and cleaning products», explains Travé, «and prior to introduction in Europe and now in Switzerland, all these Swiss-made bike specialities from our plant near Zurich first conquered the US market».
As confirmed by Marketing Director Silvan Lämmle: «We produce innovations – and we market them unconventionally sometimes».
